What is Fusion Doc Challenge?
Fusion Doc Challenge is a timed filmmaking competition where filmmakers have 5 days to make a short non-fiction film (4-7 minutes).
The top 12 films screen at our Slamdance premiere in Park City and win up to $4,500 in cash prizes.
The Fusion Doc Challenge is a timed filmmaking competition sponsored by Fusion where filmmakers from around the world sign up to make a short documentary in five days that is 4-7 minutes in length. In addition to being restricted on time, filmmakers choose between 2 assigned documentary genres (such as Adventure, LGBTQ, Music, Art, etc.) and a specific theme (such as "Behind the Curtain") that dictates the content and direction of their film. The Fusion Doc Challenge is very similar to International Doc Challenge, but filmmaking teams get to choose the five days they would like to make their film between now and November 5, 2014. After November 10, the top 12 films are determined by an esteemed panel of judges and premiere at the Fusion Doc Challenge Screening at Slamdance in January 2015. Fusion Doc Challenge will host an opening weekend party at Slamdance andthe films will screen at Big Sky Doc Film Festival in February. In addition to the top 12 films, an additional 8 films are chosen for an exclusive 18-month distribution deal with Fusion. The films also compete at TheAudienceAwards.com to an online international audience.
How does it work?
1. Register & Pick a Date
Join the Audience Awards and select five days between August 25 — November 5, 2014 to compete.
2. Receive a Theme
At 8 AM your local time on your selected start date, login and receive the competition theme and genre choice.
3. Make & Submit Your Film
You then have five days to complete your short film. Your finished film is due 120 hours later at 8am your local time.
4. Get Ready for the Premiere
Competition films will be judged in November. The top 12 films will be announced December 1, 2014 and will premiere at our Slamdance event.
What can you win?
Challenge winners will screen at our Slamdance premiere and win cash prizes totaling
The top 20 films will receive an exclusive 18-month distribution deal with Fusion.
Prize money will be awarded in three categories:
Fusion Winner: $2500
Doc Challenge "Best Film in Competition": $1000
Audience Award Winner: $1000
For a grand total of $4500 in cash prizes!
Judging and Screening
All films will be judged in November by an esteemed panel of key industry leaders. The top twelve films will screen at our Slamdance event in January 2015 and and the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in February 2015.

Competition runs from August 25 to November 5, 2014, you can sign up any time. After you register, you can choose five consecutive days beginning August 26 and ending November 5, 2014 to make your film. You don’t need any experience to participate!
